Mother Road Radio: Hits On 66
The Golden Age of Top 40 RadioHits On 66 plays the songs that were hits during the era of Route 66. We focus on the 60s and 70s with a few tracks from the late 50s and early 80s. Hits On 66's philosophy aims to mirror that of Top 40 stations when they aired music from many genres. Aretha Franklin, the Yardbirds, Journey, Ritchie Valens, Billy Joel, Motown and of course, The Beatles. They're all right here! On weekends, we feature several familiar names with their original shows. Dick Clark's "Rock, Roll and Remember," Dick Bartley's "Solid Gold Scrapbook" and "American Gold" programs air on the weekends. One-hour segments of "Solid Gold Scrapbook" air weekdays at noon and 5pm, Central. We also present a very special program called "The Golden Age of Top 40 Radio." This two-hour show consists of original airchecks that were recorded directly off the air from radio stations in the 60s and 70s. You'll hear the music, news, DJs, commercials, jingles and contests just as they were originally aired. Host Steve Cumming introduces the program to provide context of the station, DJ (including biographical info) and exact date of the recordings being featured. You can hear it Fridays at 10pm and Saturdays at 10am, Central. Each recording has been digitally remastered to provide the cleanest sound possible.
